France beat Poland 3-1 in last-16 clash
Giroud becomes France's record goalscorer
France and Poland squared off in the knockout stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Both teams got multiple shots off early in the match, but it was France who took the lead through Olivier Giroud in the 44th minute.
Giroud's goal made him France's outright all-time top scorer, surpassing Thierry Henry's record of 51 goals. Poland equalized in the second half through Robert Lewandowski, but France regained the lead through Kylian Mbappe in the 74th minute. Mbappe added another goal in the 90th minute to seal a 3-1 victory for France.
The result means that France will face England in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Poland, meanwhile, are eliminated from the tournament.
